Riba Law According to Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyyah in The Book I’lam Al-Muwaqqi’in ‘An Rabb 'Al-'Alamin and The Perception of The Village

This article aims to Understand the usury law according to the views of the famous scholar, Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah, and see the perception of the community in Bojong Koneng Village, Bogor regency related to the problem. The study was conducted using qualitative methods involving in-depth interviews and direct observation in the village. The results of this study can provide a deeper understanding of the usury law and how the perception of local communities against it. In the context of Islam, riba is the practice of taking additional advantage of the loan of money or goods prohibited by Shari’a. Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah is one of the important scholars who discussed in detail about the usury law in his book “I’lam al-Muwaqqi’in ‘an Rabbil ‘Alamin”. In his writings, he explains the types of usury and the arguments used to ban it. The study also involved the community in Bojong Koneng village as the main subject. Through in-depth interviews and direct observation, we obtained data on their understanding of usury law. Our findings show variations in perception between individuals in the village. Some have a deep understanding of usury laws, while others have a less clear or even wrong perception. This article discusses the comparison between the views of Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah and the perception of the people in Bojong Koneng village regarding usury law. We also identified factors that influenced their perception, such as educational background and life experience. The analysis provides important insight into how local understanding can differ from the perspective of scholars. Through this study, we hope to increase public awareness and understanding of the riba law and its implications in everyday life. Subsequent research may involve more variables as well as geographic regions to provide a more comprehensive picture of the topic. We are very happy if this scientific article can contribute to the academic study of riba law according to the view of Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah and explain the perception of the community in Bojong Koneng Village, Bogor regency.
